Closed 10 Years, Drag Strip set to Reopen Dec 7
DragCoverage broke news earlier of an abandoned drag strip coming back to life! Chilton County Dragway will open back up thanks to two friends! Chilton County Drag Strip is positioned perfectly centered between Montgomery, AL and Birmingham, AL with an hour trip from each city.
DragCoverage article:
Chilton County Dragway outside of Clanton, AL will get a second chance after two friends combine their efforts to open the facility back up under the name Chilton County Motorsports Park. Josh Alexander from Thorsby, AL is leading the efforts and discussed their plans with DragCoverage.
Alexander said “my friend and I are opening the track back up. We have a new timing system coming and are about 6-months out from fully opening the track.”
“The plan is to have every kind of drag racing from no prep, to bracket racing, and everything in between. We still have a lot to do but we are chipping away at it.”
“In the meantime, we will host some flash-light start true street racing to help us get the crowds back in. We are asking everyone to be patient with us and we get everything back up and going. I’m sure we will ave some bugs to workout but it’s going to be a great facility once it’s done.”
This past weekend, several volunteers showed up to give their support of the facility and after 10 years of sitting idle, you can image the amount of work that it will take to clean the track up. - DragCoverage
The track is ⅛ mile and will run it’s first event as a Daily Driver, Flashlight Start, Heads Up, No Prep Shootout on Dec 7! The guys are getting right to work and I love to see it!
Based on the facilities in the area, this looks like a prime location for a Regional Drag and Drive event! With 12 drag strips within a 3-4 hour radius, this facility is in prime drag racing country! 1/8 Mile Outlaw drag and drive anyone?????
We need more race tracks and seeing this announcement shows the commitment people have to the sport. I am certain that the new managers will do all in their power to make this a success but they need our help. You must go like the page, share their posts and comment with encouraging words as these guys put their all into Chilton County Motorsports Park!
If you’d like to get involved, reach out to the facility - Chilton County Motorsports Park on Facebook. There will be plenty of opportunities for clean-up parties, race promotion and sponsorships to help this track come back to life after sitting idle for 10 years!
