Bridesmaids of HRDW 200 MPH Club

Bridesmaids: Racers ALMOST in the Hot Rod Drag Week 200 MPH Club

Achieving a speed of 200 miles per hour is a coveted milestone in the racing world, especially at Hot Rod Drag Week. Let's take a look at some racers who came tantalizingly close to this mark but fell just short. We look for these guys to make the list this year or next!

Tom McGilton is by far the closest racer to the club, he clocked a speed of 199.17 MPH on the second day of the 2017 event and followed it up with a near-identical 198.93 MPH on the third day. The Why Not Camaro is a car that has been at the top of the list for along time, and Tom is one of the coolest guys out there. We look forward to seeing him join this exclusive club very soon!

Glenn Hunter Jr. came close with a speed of 196.70 MPH on the fifth day of the 2019 event. His ‘56 Chevrolet is a crowd favorite and the twin-turbo big block has the power needed to get the last few mph required to get into the club. We look forward to being on site at this year’s event in hopes he makes it!

In 2023, Ryan Hargett reached an impressively close 196.08 MPH on the second day. Despite his relentless efforts, the 200 MPH barrier remained just out of reach. Hargett's performance highlighted his exceptional build prowess. Ryan and Tammy Hargett have retired the Mustang to street duty and the couple is building a new Unlimited Camaro with the twin-turbo Coyote powerplant from the Mustang.

We will follow these racers very closely this season with hopes of capturing their membership to a club of 14 Racers within the history of Hot Rod Drag Week.
